CABANE

Tailor-designed for a day nursery in central Rennes, this playhouse meets precise specifications: to be a space where children can go to be alone, that should be easy to open and close and that shows what’s happening inside.

The pieces of fabric are magnetised and reversible, making it possible to open the playhouse more or less depending on one’s mood. The carpet is made up of several foam blocks fitted into each other like a puzzle, it can become a construction game that creates a new space around the playhouse. These modules can also be used as seats by kids and adults alike.

SIESTE OLFACTIVE

Can you remember the last time you took the time to rest in the grass? Lie down and let yourself be guided through your cognitive world by the surrounding scents.

In order to showcase the signature fragrance “La Roche Jagu”, designed by Jean-Charles Sommerand, Les M Studio has recreated an imaginary garden in the castle attics. The exhibition offers a sensory trip with a visual and olfactory experience.

Curled up in a cushion in a verdant atmosphere evoking nature, you will recognise the smells, light and feelings you encounter when lying down in the grass. The elements of the installation – cushions and panels perforated with floral patterns – sweep you away and reveal forgotten memories and sensations. Like Proust’s madeleine, the design by Les M Studio offers a relaxing space in which you can have a true sensory experience.

It is scientifically proven that smell evokes more memories than other sensory systems such as sight or touch; and the colour green symbolises nature, where it is predominant, while also having calming and refreshing properties. Les M Studio thus invites you to explore your olfactory senses during a catnap in their green-themed installation to take a moment to relax and rediscover the smells you encountered during your strolls through the castle grounds.

Particular attention has been given to materials and original patterns created especially for the installation.

SENSORIUM

An art museum is generally seen, above all, as a place where things are on view. Artworks are contemplated, linked to the visitors through the gaze only. In a museum, you have to be calm and silent, not touching anything. Food consumption is forbidden, noises and smells remain outside. However, this summer all the five senses are welcome at the Domaine de la Roche Jagu. SENSORIUM puts our sensations to the test. For this sensorial environment, Les M Studio have carefully chosen materials with surfaces and textures asking to be touched. SENSORIUM is a space dedicated to both to perception and touch. You are invited to a game of contradictions between what your eye sees and your body feels.
Take your shoes off and relax, SENSORIUM will do the rest.

PILLOW

For the children’s workshop at the Centre Pompidou-Metz, Les M have designed a world which is soft and bright, a sort of giant, soft rug filled with multicoloured and padded “bolsters”, in turn a simple cushion, a play area or hut to be built.

This soft structured environment, which is also a changing landscape, is completed by a creative studio to practice design from a young age! A “nest cushion” enlarged to the scale of a room, “Pillow” promises to be a dream come true.

SAISONS

In a location steeped in history, one element particularly concerns us: a forgotten passageway… The 15th-century castle on the banks of the Trieux estuary is listed as a historic monument, with seventy-four hectares of gardens specified as ‘‘remarkable’’, and is open to all cultural and walking activities. You feel at one with your surroundings as soon as you enter.
This project is imbued with the history of the castle and its roots in nature.
SEASONS is a metaphor for the passage of time which imposes its inescapable power on our lives. Its aim is to make us travel and open up to the outside world. SEASONS is like a booster shot: it evokes the climate change caused by our impact on the environment.
Les M Studio has made a virtual recreation of the forgotten passageway in the upper room on the second floor. It lends itself to a more contemporary reading, as a scroll bar, an excursion through the seasons.
The exhibition is an experience that is both visual and sensory. The visitor is led through the seasons in order to discover the installation that is made up of coloured panels. Changing vegetation develops the route through the months, via carefully arranged spaces with shapes borrowed from outdoor furniture. These spaces offer the public the opportunity to really perceive the changing seasons thanks to collaboration with the estate gardeners. Japanese maples, scented carnations, dahlias, and lemon trees vibrate their diaphanous shadows and find their places in this pure, mineral universe.
Particular attention is paid to materials and textures through an original selection of fabrics. From isle to isle, SEASONS plunges us into a mixed route, a new way of exploring our relationship with space, matter and the outer environment.
