In collaboration with Ingrid Jobet, weaver 

The designers reinvented the lirette technique of weaving by using coils of recycled fabric used as tagging in the vineyards of New Aquitaine. The enormous frame version of the braiding enabled the production of these pixilated patterns. The design of the contour of the carpet refers to the shape of the leaves of wild orchids in the Périgord. A loom was created specifically for the piece with the collaboration of Ingrid Jobet.

BOTANICA

In collaboration with Janet Cintas, lithographer 

During their meeting with Janet Cintas, Céline Merhand Anaïs Morel were wowed by the technique of lithography, its material effect and transparency. The designers asked Janet to reproduce patterns from dried leaves gathered in the forest during one of their visits. The studio reworked them numerically in order to create a repetitive and reproducible pattern on a textile support which is impossible to do with lithography (which allows only paper prints in limited number).

NUANCES

In collaboration with Adrian Charlton, basket-maker and wicker producer Alexander Hay, cabinet-maker

Basket-maker Adrian Charlton is also a wicker producer. He grows more than 25 varieties of willow, thus providing a very wide spectrum of colours. The designers wanted to highlight this richness by creating a full-length coffee table, a real swatch of unprocessed raw material. Wood and metal have been combined with wicker in a subtle way with the collaboration of cabinet-maker Alexander Hay.

ECLISSE

In collaboration with Nathalie Lecoeur, leatherworker 

Leatherwork has become the heart of the region were leaders of the French leather industry are established (CWD – the first saddler in France, Repetto and Hermès – located in Nontron itself). Les M Studio has developed a range of luxurious upholstered leather baskets, inspired by traditional local chestnut weaving. A piece of wood makes it possible to assemble and give form to the basket in an astute way. This project was developed in partnership with Chamont Tanneries, one of the few producers of vegetable leather.

PRIMAIRE

Subtractive synthesis is a chromatic reproduction system based on combining a limited number of base colours, known as primary colours.
There are three: cyan, magenta and yellow. Combining these colours in pairs produces the secondary colours (cyan and yellow give green, cyan and magenta give violet blue, yellow and magenta give vermillion red). This collection of vases applies this theory by playing with the different colours they are made up of.
Each vase is composed of two elements, each of a primary colour. Two vessels are intertwined, one inside the other.
A complementary colour appears in the area where the two superimpose. Users, as they move around the object, change their view and thus, their perception of this part of the piece. The lower part of the outer vase is transparent. This creates contrast, allowing the original colour of its contents to be seen.

TIDEOGRAPH

The main asset of the city of Saint-Nazaire is its seaside location. Its port and its beaches are a real attraction for both established businesses and tourism. However, the city does not offer a view of the sea and one could almost forget its presence even though it is close by.

Our project aims to highlight this natural resource in the heart of the downtown area and, more precisely, the specificity of the Atlantic coast: the tides.

The coastal inhabitants live with the ebb and flow of the ocean. This urban tide indicator project aims to support the daily life of city residents by showing what time of day they can either go fishing when the tide is low or go to the beach when the tide is high thanks to the coming and going of water in the object. Many shop owners of the city centre can see many customers coming during low tide.

As a landmark in the city, the project also helps to bring the element of water into the urban concrete landscape and thus connect the city centre to its port and beaches in real time.

BRIEG

“Brieg” is a basket made of biocomposite material.
Unlike other composite materials, here all elements are natural, making the material entirely biodegradable. This follows the principles of sustainable development and is a true technological leap forward. Because of the use of thermosetting polymers made from petrochemicals, recycling options for composite materials have been very limited until now.
This basket is lightweight, stackable and recyclable.
